2nd Annual "Prairie Day" event
Fun FREE Family Day!
Where: Alderville Community Centre, 8913 County Road 45, Alderville
When: September 12th, 2009 (rain or shine)
Event will start at 10:00 am and end at 4:00 pm
Come enjoy a day at the Black Oak Savanna enjoying children's activities, traditional teachings,
and tours of the the Savanna. What was it like for the early pioneers in the
Rice Lake Plains?
What is tallgrass prairie and why is it so important? What does an Eastern Hog-nosed Snake look like?
Why is tallgrass present in Northumberland County? What is the Oak Ridges Moraine?
Find out answers to these questions and learn about the history of the area, the early pioneers,
tallgrass prairie and visit one of the Nature Conservancy of Canada's unique tallgrass prairie sites.
Tours
There will be a two tours at the Black Oak Savanna and a bus tour to another tall grass prairie restoration site.
Tall Grass Prairie Restoration Site Tours (10:30am and 1:00pm)
These tours will be facilitated by Mark Stabb of the Nature Conservancy of Canada. A bus will leave the community centre at the above times and drive you to the prairie restoration site.
Black Oak Savanna Tours (10:30am and 1:00pm)
If you are interested in the BOS guided tour you can meet at the BOS site (8467 County Road 18) at these times for the tour. Elizabeth Kellog will also have bird banding demonstrations at this site during the tours.

| 2:30 pm | Sciensational Sssnakes!! provides hands-on education about reptiles and amphibians for the young and the young at heart. Our shows feature an informal lecture about the animals, their ecology and conservation issues as well as a session in which participants are able to interact, touch and hold the animals. Our displays, which can be combined with one or more shows, feature animals in terrariums with interpretive signs and backdrops, and are suitable for public spaces like parks, malls and fairs.
